FAQ's

faq
I am a parent who is not familiar with the remote learning system. Does this mean I have to run my home as if my child were in school? Do I log in at particular times? Can I please have more information on how this works?

Families will get very specific information during the teacher's “Open House” on how the remote learning plan will work. Schedules vary by grades. Yes, they will need to log in to video conferences with their teachers at particular times each day. Specific information that we provide will include instructions for you and your student to ensure successful remote learning.

What if I don’t have wifi at home or my internet isn’t reliable?

Comcast has also announced that it will offer low-income families who live within Comcast service areas 60 days of free “Internet Essentials” service. Go to InternetEssentials.com, call 855-846-8376 for English, or call 855-765-6995 for Spanish.

Internet service providers are offering packages to assist those who do not currently have Internet access or have limited Internet access.

Please use the following links for providers we have identified to be offering these packages:
We will continue to add to this list as we learn of more options.

Using your mobile device as a hotspot

Did you know that you may be able to use your cell phone’s data as a way to connect computers or tablets to the internet? By creating a mobile hotspot — a type of wireless internet service — you can easily connect multiple devices online.

The hotspot feature on your phone uses your data plan to “tether” or connect other devices — like your student’s iPad— to the internet. It’s important to note that using the hotspot feature will use your device’s data, and your data limits do apply. Video streaming over this type of connection will use a large portion of data, so try to avoid playing videos when connected to a hotspot.

How will students be graded?

We look forward to sharing with you soon our plans for how your student’s performance will be assessed during remote learning. We have been focused first on working with our staff, students, and families to get into the habit of remote learning.

Will students just be reviewing material during remote learning, or will they be learning new material as well?

During the initial phase of our remote learning, our goal is for students to maintain their current level of mastery with a focus on reading. All grades will continue to further student learning and mastery. We look forward to sharing more information about our learning objectives as we continue to build our remote learning plans.

Exams

Will state exams continue as planned?

All CO assessments (Grades 3-8) have now been suspended for the rest of the school year, including CMAS…

Work

What if I have to work during the day? (Elem)

We understand that this is a stressful time. Please share your student’s daily schedule with whoever is caring for your child while you are at work. Also, be sure to let your child’s teachers know the best time to reach you, so they can stay in touch and help you with this process.

What if I have to work during the day? (MS)

You will receive communication that outlines your student’s daily schedule so that you know what is expected of your student. You will then be able to follow-up to make sure expectations are met. Additionally, your student’s teachers will remain in contact with you so that you are aware of how your student’s remote learning is progressing.

I am a parent who works from home. Do you have any suggestions on how to juggle my schedule with my student’s remote learning schedule?

We know this is a challenging and difficult situation. There are many different ways to create a home learning environment. One suggestion is to have student(s) start on their school work when you 'go' to work. You can take breaks together, and then return back to work and school respectively. Another option is for you to help your student during your breaks, or before or after your work ends. Feel free to reach out to your student’s teacher to discuss how to best support you and your student. Also, know that we will be extending a lot of grace during this time.

General

What about graduations for Kinder, 8th graders? Will those events be held?

We don’t know what public policies will be in place in two months or whether the spread of COVID-19 will have been halted. It is too early to tell. We will keep you informed as we get information regarding these events.

Will teachers and staff be financially covered during this time?

All staff are working during this time and will receive their regular salaries and benefits.

Will LA be providing mental health services to kids during this time?

If your child receives counseling, we are working on a plan to continue services over the phone or via online platforms. You can reach out to our school counselors or connect with your student’s teachers if your child is in need of support.

Will my scholar continue to receive special services (speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc.)?

Yes, while the state of Colorado has issued a stay-at-home order and all schools closed, Special Education Services and Related Services will be provided under FAPE (Free and Appropriate Education). All service providers will be contacting families by phone or email and services will be provided, as best as they can be, virtually. Please continue to check your email daily regarding any communication from service providers your student may have and please reach out to them if you have any questions or concerns.
