It is hard to believe that this will be my 6th year of working as a special education teacher, but I'm very much looking forward to teaching and supporting teaching and supporting students on and not on my caseload. As a special education teacher, my goal is to provide the instruction and practice needed to develop within students the knowledge and skills needed to be functionally and academically independent to the point where they know longer need a formal plan and support. Post-school, I want them to be independent in their ability to have and care for their lives, their liberties, and their pursuit of those things that provide them with happiness.
