Teaching has been my passion for the greater part of my life. I graduated from college in 1982 with a major in elementary education and a minor in English. This is my tenth year at Legacy and my thirty-first year of teaching. Most of those years have been spent teaching fifth grade, which is what I teach here at LA. I live in Elizabeth with my husband. Our older daughter lives here in Elizabeth, along with her husband and three young children. Her oldest child attends Legacy and is in first grade. Our younger daughter lives in Gunnison and is living her dream. She teaches skiing in the wintertime and guides rafting trips in the summertime. In my "spare" time I read, walk and garden. I believe that having high expectations for the students and being consistent in those expectations brings about high levels of success academically, relationally and personally, both in the classroom and outside of it. It is my goal to take a child from the level on which he comes into my classroom, and be instrumental in helping him rise above and beyond his dreams. That, to me, is success.
Be kinder than you have to be.
Self-control is preferred high above teacher-control.
Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
- Albert Einstein
Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.
